More About Chevening UK Government Scholarship

Chevening UK Scholarship is the UK Government’s international awards scheme whose objectives are targeted towards development of global leaders. 
Fully Funded by the Commonwealth Office, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner affiliations, Chevening normally presents two kinds of award–Chevening Fellowships and Chevening Scholarships—the recipients are normally selected by High Commissions Globally and British.

 Chevening UK Government Scholarship Chevening Scholarship Eligibility
Chevening allows only successful outstanding leaders Globally to pursue a-year master’s degrees in the UK. There is nothing called a ‘typical’ Chevening Scholar, but Individuals that are successful will definitely have ambition, leadership qualities, and a passion for positive impact in their respected home countries. 
We ask you to apply only if you meet eligibility criteria plus other relevant requirements. Remember your Religion, gender, marital status, level, age (there is no age limit), sexual orientation or parenthood status, Rank, caste, class, or other attributes doesn't matter to us.
The most important thing is your ability to submit an application that proves beyond doubt you are capable of excelling on a Serious master’s Program in the UK, and you have an undeniable vision for your future. You must make sure that you meet the work- experience minimum requirement for the Award before you submit your Chevening application. Chevening Scholarships expect that an applicant must possess at least two years of work experience. If you don't possess the two-year work experience, you can not submit your application.

Eligible sorts of work experience
The work experience that are required for Chevening can include: 
  1. Voluntary work 
  2. Paid or unpaid internships 
  3. Part-time employment 
  4. Full-time employment 
Work experience can be done during, before,or after graduating from undergraduate studies. Regardless, employment experience that you have before your undergraduate or postgraduate course wouldn't be eligible. 

You do not need to gather the work experience requirement in one season of employment. An applicant can collate up to fourteen different work periods to meet the requirement.  If you have over fourteen work positions, then please input the periods that make up the highest number of hours worked. If you are presently employed, it isn't a requirement from Chevening that you leave your job. 
Instead, discuss your Chevening application with your current employer and it is your responsibility to make sure that they release you if you're selected for a Chevening Scholarship. You can redirect them to the employers page on our website. The Chevening Secretariat, British embassy or High commission can't intervene in this. 

Ways to calculate your work experience 

Your work entries will be determined automatically by multiplying the number of hours worked by the number of weeks worked week. 
For this calculation, a working year comprises 40-50 weeks and a working Hour comprises 35-60 hours.
Any other excesses for full-time employment will be deemed ineligible.
The required minimum number of hours an applicant ought to have before applying for a Chevening Scholarship is below: 

Chevening Scholarships two years’ Job experience = 2,800 hours If you worked part time, you should have accumulated the minimum requirement over a longer period. 

Eligibility for a Chevening Scholarship you must fulfill:

  • You must be a Citizen of Chevening-eligible territory or Country.
  • Agree to return to your country of citizenship with a minimum of two years after your scholarship has ended. 
  • Have completed all requirements of an undergraduate degree successfully which will enable you to gain entry for a postgraduate program in a UK university when you submit your application. 
  • This must not be less than an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree in the UK depending on your choice of course and university. 
  • Have a minimum of two years which is equal to 2,800 hours of work experience. You must have applied to three different eligible UK university courses and have gotten a certified offer from one of them.

You aren't eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if you: 

    • Have dual British or British citizenship except if you are a citizen of a British Occupant Territory or hold BN(O) and you are applying from Hong Kong. 

    • You have refugee status in a non-Chevening Qualified country.

    • Any applicants who are Occupants of a Chevening-eligible country and who have refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country are also eligible for a scholarship.

    • If you're a former employee, or an employee, or relative of an employee (from July 2017) of Her Majesty’s Government which includes:

    • The Department for Business, British embassies/high commissions;

    •  Energy and Industrial Strategy; the Ministry of Defence; 

    • Department for International Trade; and the member of staff or Home Office of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. 

    • Former employees, Employees, or relatives of an employee (since July 2017) of Chevening Partner organizations are eligible to apply, but can't get a Chevening Partner Scholarship from the organization previously worked, which they work, or are affiliated through relatives.

    • If you have studied previously in the UK and obtain funding from a UK Government-Funded scholarship.

Application Deadline
